Depois que todas as paredes já (quase) ficaram prontas no meu apartamento, comecei a voltar meus olhos para o alto e pensar sobre essa grande superfície que me resta para brincar… o teto!

Em geral, essa é uma parte bastante negligenciada da casa (tanto que só estou olhando com carinho pra ela depois que as outras alternativas se esgotaram) mas da mesma forma que eu acho paredes brancas normalmente bem chatinhas, tetos brancos e lisos também ficam com uma cara de “está faltando acabar”…

Eu demorei para me acostumar com a parte da frente do meu apartamento onde o teto é todo revestido de lambris de madeira. Já experimentei pintá-los da mesma cor escura das paredes e gostei muito do resultado no lavabo (preto brilhante nos azulejos da parede e no teto de madeira) mas no hall eu acho que ainda falta algo.

Quem recomenda pintar o teto da mesma cor que as paredes -sempre escuras – é a super guru Abigail Ahern, ressaltando que o truque para ter o melhor efeito é usar uma cor brilhante no teto e opaca nas paredes. Eu acho a ideia brilhante, principalmente pra quem tem o teto baixo. Sim!!! Ao contrário da cor branca, cores escuras fazem a parede – ou teto – desaparcer no infinito, dano uma boa ideia de amplitude, como um céu noturno. Ou seja, se pensarmos na natureza, a cor que nosso corpo está acostumado a ter sobre si durante o dia é o azul e, durante a noite, o preto… nada de branco!  Ótima desculpa para que um ser noturno como eu pinte o teto todo de preto. Hahahaha!

Since every single wall in my pad is (almost) already  done, I began turning my eyes and thoughts to this huge empty surface above me… the ceiling!

Generally this is such a neglected part of the house (even I am looking to it with care only after getting ready with all the rest) but just as I think white walls can be quite boring, plain white ceilings always give me the sensation “it’s not quite ready yet”…

It took me quite a long time to get used to the front half of my rental in which the ceilings are covered by wood. I already made some experiments like painting it the same dark hue as the walls and I must say I like very much the result I got in the restroom (glossy black paint over the tiles and wood ceiling) but it is still missing “something” in that entrance hall.

The recommendation to paint the ceiling and walls with the same (dark) hues comes from super guru Abigail Ahern, of course. She emphasizes you get the best effect by painting the ceiling glossy and the walls matte. I think this is a brillant idea, specially if you have low ceiling. Yes!!!! Unlike white, dark hues make the walls  – or ceiling – disappear in the infinity, giving  such a strong idea of wideness, just like the sky at night. That means, if we think about nature, the colour our body is used to have above ourselves would be blue during the day and black at night… no white. Perfect excuse for a nocturnal being like me to paint all ceilings black. Hahahahaha!
