Outro dia recebi a visita de uma amiga muito querida, dessas bem antigas que já conseguiram uma intimidade muito grande para se atrever a dizer coisas que nem sempre se diz… Estávamos conversando sobre casa – que novidade! – e rimos muito quando ela me disse que não entendia por que eu tenho tanto abajur, se gosto tanto de tudo meio escurinho… se é pra deixar o abajur apagado, então não precisa ter!!

Faz totalmente sentido mas, como eu já disse quando postei sobre luz, o interessante é poder variar o clima da casa através do uso diferenciado da luz de acordo com cada momento ou estado de espírito, por isso é legal ter uma boa variedade à disposição. Já mostrei como eu brinco com isso na sala, hoje vou me atrever a falar de um ambiente que eu ainda não estou satisfeito… a sala de jantar.

Como ela fica bem no meio do apartamento, recebe luz natural só de longe por isso uma boa iluminação é fundamental. Além disso, existe uma dupla funcionalidade: além de sala de jantar é também o meu home office e tudo o que está relacionado a trabalho, fica aqui. Bem escondidinho! Trabalhar em casa exige uma certa disciplina para evitar que a vida profissional não tome nem o espaço nem o tempo da vida pessoal. Isso é importante porque é garantia de qualidade de vida. Também garante um rendimento maior da força de trabalho mas isso é menos importante. A sociedade está percebendo aos poucos que a loucura pelo crescimento é totalmente desnecessária, foi só um pensamento imposto por quem ganha (muito) dinheiro com isso. Se aproveitássemos a produção de bens que já temos, ninguém morreria de fome no mundo, há fartura suficiente. O que falta é vontade de compartilhar bem estar. Daí meu interesse por decoração e o gesto simbólico de limpar a mesa de todo o material de trabalho e abrir espaço para a comida e para os amigos. Trabalho fica escondido na estante, atrás de portas de madeira enquanto as portas transparentes de vidro guardam os livros. Esses não são trabalho… são inspiração e estimação!

A few days ago I had the visit of a dear friend, one of those old companions with whom you get such an intimate friendship that one can say things to each other that you normally don’t dare saying outloud… We were talking about home – hey ho! – and we laughed so much when she said she doesn’t understand why do I have so many lamps if I always keep it half-light… and for her taste that means simply “too dark”!!

It’s ok but as I already said when I posted about lighting, the interesting thing is to have choices and to change the atmosphere through diferent lighting options according to the moment and to your mood. I showed how I play with that in the living room, today I will dare to talk about a room I’m not quite satisfied yet… the dinning room.

That room is in the middle of my apartment, where natural light comes from far away so lighting is quite fundamental. Beyond that, there is also a double function: not only is that my dinning room but also my home office and everything that is related to work is here. Very well hidden though!! Of course everything I’m working with at the moment remains scattered over the table but I do have to hide it if I want to stop working and not just keep going forever. Working at home requires discipline to avoid your professional life taking over the space and time from your personal life. This is important because it means life quality. It also raises your working performance but this is less important. Society is slowly realizing that this crazyness about growth is totally unnecessary, it was only an imposed thought by those who really earn (a lot) with it on us. If we would  make the most of goods we already produce no´one would be starving, there is enough wealth in the world. The only thing missing is will to share welfare. That is the origin of my interest towards decoration and the reason for the symbolic gesture of cleaning out all working material from my table and openning space for food and friends. Work gets hidden in the shelves behind wooden doors while the transparent glass doors keep my books. They are not work but inspiration and esteem!
