Eu realmente não me canso de gostar do meu bairro vienense… o  charmoso segundo distrito, chamado Cidade Leopoldo (Leopoldstadt), que fica colado ao centro histórico da cidade separado apenas pelo canal do rio Danúbio. É aí nesse canal que se encontra aquele “museu a céu aberto”… a área aberta aos grafiteiros que eu já falei aqui.

Um dos highlights do bairro fica bem no comecinho da rua Tabor, um grandioso prédio de 18 andares desenhado pelo premiado arquiteto Jean Nouvel. Além de abrigar dois restaurantes e o hotel Sofitel, a parte inferior do prédio – chamado Stilwerk – foi planejada para se tornar o centro vienense do design de interiores, representado pelas marcas mais tradicionais de móveis como Wittmann e Thonet e outras mais jovens que podem escolher entre um endereço fixo ou uma loja pop up.

Como o Stilwerk fica ao lado do Teatro Odeon – onde estou ensaiando atualmente, com estréia já anunciada para abril! – eu sempre tenho um tempinho para ir ver as novidades e admirar o jardim vertical do botânico francês Patrick Blanc: esse seu “Mur végétal” vienense é uma construção de metal que cobre uma área vertical de 600 metros quadrados com mais de 20.000 plantas e me fascina desde a primeira vez que passei desavisadamente por ali. Os jardins verticais estão super na moda pelo mundo todo e Patrick Blanc é um dos nomes mais respeitados no assunto mas em Viena, isso não é novidade… os primeiros desenhos de “prédios verdes” datam do início dos anos 80 e contribuem para que Viena seja considerada ano após ano a cidade com melhor qualidade de vida do mundo: mais de 50% da área da cidade é verde!!! Não é incrível??

I really cannot stop loving my neighbourhood in Vienna… the charming second district, called Leopold City (Leopoldstadt), that is just beside the historic center of the city and separated from it by the Danube River’s channel. In this channel  you find that “open air museum”, the open area for grafitti that I already spoke about here.

One of the highlights in this neighbourhood is right at the beginning of Tabor Street, a grand 18 floors building planned by star architect Jean Nouvel. Beyond housing two restaurants and the hotel Sofitel, the botton part of the building – called Stilwerk – was thought to be the viennese center of interior design, represented by traditional furniture brands like Wittmann and Thonet but also the young generation that may choose between a fix adress or a pop up store.

Since Stilwerk is just beside the Odeon Theatre where I’m rehearsing at the moment – the premiere is announced for april!! – I often have the chance to look what is new around there and admire the vertical garden done by french botanist Patrick Blanc: his viennese “Mur végétal” is a metal construction with 600 square meters and over 20.000 plants that fascinates me since I passed by for the first time having no idea how astonished I would get!! Vertical gardens are fashionable all around the world nowadays and Patrick Blanc is one of the most respected names in this matter but in Vienna this is not really new… the first plans for “green buildings” appeared in the beginning of the 80’s. They also contribute forVienna being named year after year the city with the highest life quality in the world: more than 50% of the city’s area is green!!! Isn’t it unbelievable???
