Nos últimos dois meses, enquanto ensaiava duro no teatro para a nossa produção atual, tirei várias fotos no teatro, no palco, dos objetos de cena, do cenário e das pessoas. Várias delas já entraram em um ou outro post mas eu sempre tomei bastante cuidado para não revelar demais e não estragar a surpresa do lançamento da peça. Agora o espetáculo já estreou (ontem à noite), chegou a hora de revelar as imagens pra quem está longe e não poderá vir até Viena. Daí, finalmente, viro mais essa página e seguimos em frente com outros assuntos.

 

O Serapions Theater é um grupo que se estabeleceu desde a década de 90 no Teatro Odeon mas a história do grupo vem de longe, desde os tempos como teatro de bonecos itinerante nos anos 70, passando pela primeira sede na pracinha Wallenstein antes de se meter na empreitada de reformar a sala abandonada da Bolsa de Cereais de Viena. Essa sala foi incendiada na 2a.guerra mundial e ficou fechada até que o Serapions a alugasse para transformá-la num dos teatros mais belos e originais da Europa.

A linguagem artística é predominantemente visual, influenciada por esse espaço teatral único assim como pela imaginação cenográfica do seu diretor e fundador Erwin Piplits, artista que utiliza uma palheta infinita de recursos teatrais artesanais que se transformaram em sua marca registrada. O gosto pelo artesanal também está no DNA do trabalho de sua mulher, a atriz Ulrike Kaufmann, criadora por mais de 30 anos dos figurinos em todas as peças. A magia visual se une à dança, à música e um tipo de atuação física de força expressionista que praticamente dispensa o texto falado. A produção atual é a primeira que apresenta a palavra em primeiro plano, os poemas dramáticos “Enuma Elish” e “Poema sem Herói” da poetisa russa Anna Achmatowa cujos versos contam sua própria biografia e a história dos círculos intelectuais e artísticos destruídos pela Revolução Comunista em seu país. “O crepúsculo da Avantgarde” é minha 15a. produção nesse teatro em 20 anos de aprendizado fecundo.

In the last few months, while I had hard rehearsals in the theatre for our present production, I took many pictures of the theatre, props, scenery and people. Many of them became part of other postings though I always took care not to reveal too much and don’t spoil the surprise of those coming to see the play in the theatre. Now the show already had its openning (last evening), so it is time to reveal more images for those who are far and will not make it till Vienna. Then, finally, I turn this page and we go on with other subjects.

 

Serapions Theater is a group stablished at Odeon Theatre since the 90’s. Its history comes from much furher, since the period as an itinerant pupetry theatre in the 70’s and later with its first headquarters at Wallenstein Square before getting their own hands dirty to renovate the abandoned trading floor of Vienna’s Corn Stock Market. This hall was set on fire towards the end of 2nd world war and remained closed until the theatre group rented it transforming it in one of the most beautifull and original theatres in Europe.

The artistic language is mainly visual, influenced by its theatrical space as well as by the scenographic imagination of its director and founder Erwin Piplits, an artist who  uses an infinite pallete of handmade teatrical resources that became his own brand. This love for handcraft is also in the DNA of his wife’s work, the actress Ulrike Kaufman, who created the costumes for all the plays for over 30 years. The visual magic gets together with dance, music and a kind of physical acting with expresionistic power dismissing spoken text. The present production is the first one that highlights the spoken word, the dramatic poems “Enuma Elish” and “Poem without Hero” by Anna Achmatowa. The russian poet tells in verses her own biography and the history of the intellectual and artistic circles that were destroyed by the Communist Revolution in her country. “Avantgarde’s Dawn” is my 15th production at this house in 20 years of fertile learning.
