Já comentei há alguns dias atrás que agora que o ritmo de trabalho sossegou um pouco estou ficando com vontade de transformar a casa toda de novo. Quer dizer, toda também não… é mais a sala, a entrada e o meu closet.

Uma das coisas que eu sinto falta na sala é a presença de plantas. Ao lado de livros, uma boa iluminação, texturas rústicas e têxteis, são as plantas que deixam a casa mais aconchegante. Reza o Feng Shui que elas podem ser artificiais, até mesmo a imagem de uma planta tem o efeito psicológico de mudar o astral da casa e de quem mora nela. O que o Feng Shui desaconselha é o uso de flores secas porque elas representariam a presença da morte – praticamente de um defunto – em casa!

Eu não tenho problema com nada disso porque para mim Feng Shui não envolve crença. (Opinião pessoal com profundo respeito por quem pensa e acredita de outra maneira). Acho o Feng Shui interessantíssimo como conjunto coeso de elementos que buscam sintonizar a casa com seus habitantes… um excelente instrumento para quem busca harmonia pessoal pois concretiza no espaço a reflexão sobre vários aspectos da vida e do ser humano. Acontece que como a força dos símbolos culturais é psicológica, símbolos de uma cultura a qual eu não pertenço não terão sobre mim o mesmo efeito como sobre uma pessoa envolvida naquela cultura. Acreditar neles, nesse caso, seria superstição e aí está uma coisa que não tem nada a ver comigo. Se eu não passo embaixo de escada é porque tenho medo que a lata de tinta caia na minha cabeça… e só.

Voltando pra minha sala… plantas ali serão todas provavelmente artificiais (porque eu fico muito tempo fora de casa em viagems de trabalho) ou simplesmente flores na água. Aliás, quem parou no tempo achando que flor artificial é brega deve dar uma olhadinha na coleção totalmente  fantástica da Abigail Ahern… as “faux plants” e flores dela são tão perfeitas que dá até pra sentir o perfume! I already said some days ago that since my rhythm of work became a bit slowlier I am feeling like changing everything at home again. I mean, not really everything but my living room, the entrance hall and closet.

Something that I really miss in my living room are plants. Beside books, a good illumination, rustic textures and textiles, plants are responsible for making the house a lot cozier. According to Feng Shui, they may be artificial, even the image of a plant has the psychological effect of changing the mood of a room and its inhabitants. What Feng Shui advises against is using dry flowers because they would represent the presence of death… nearly like having a corpse at home!

I have no problems with anything of that because for me Feng Shui doesn’t mean belief. (Personal opinion with deep respect for those who think and believe diferently). I find Feng Shui extremely interesting as a coesive set of elements to syntonize the house with those who live in there… an excelent tool for those who search personal harmony since it turns visible in a room the reflection about diferent aspects of life and human being. The thing is since the power of cultural symbols is psychologic, symbols of a culture which I do not belong to will not have the same effect over me as over someone envolved in that culture. In my case, believing in those symbols would remain a superstition and this is something really far from me. If I don’t walk by under any ladder is only because I’m afraid the paint can could fall on my head. And that is it.

Back to my living room… plants out there will be probably all artificial (because I am often out of home for longer periods due to my work) or simply cut flowers in water. By the way… those who stopped in time thinking that artificial flowers are kitch should take a look at the astonishing faux plants and flowers  collection by Abigail Ahern… they are so perfect you can even smell their scent!
