Bom dia e boa semana para todos! Segunda aqui no blog é dia de começar a semana prestigiando a galeria dos meus IGers favoritos. “IGers” é o nome que se dá para os usuários da rede social de compartilhamento de imagens que está tomando conta da cena no momento: o Instagram.

Só que, além disso, vou respeitar o puxão de orelha que levei da minha leitora mais assídua… preciso dizer quem é? hehehe Ela me perguntou se o blog não será mais sobre decoração como no início. Esse é um dos temas preferidos dela que se sentiu um pouco “chupando o dedo”. Como ela me conhece muito bem, sabe que minha curiosidade me leva a passar de um assunto para outro com uma certa rapidez mas para mim, isso não significa “mudança” e sim uma transformação gradativa de aspectos que se misturam.

Por exemplo… Mesmo que o tema de hoje seja arte – apresentando esse maravilhoso artista francês, Bernard Sénéchal, que vive na cidade americana de Birmingham, a maior do Alabama – peço licença a ele para mostrar que alguns conceitos usados em decoração (que já apareceram várias vezes aqui no blog) também me servem para apreciar arte em geral (e quando tratamos da Arte apresentada na galeria do IGer @bernardsenechal, temos, sim, que usar maiúscula!).

Eu falo muitas vezes sobre usar uma palheta de cores reduzida na decoração… pois bem, @bernardsenechal me encantou desde o primeiro momento que bati os ohos em sua galeria com trabalhos que apresentam tons neutros (branco, preto, cinza e marrom) e apenas uma “participação especial” de uma ou outra cor que, em geral é o azul. Agora, vejam a exuberância de texturas desse artista! É impossível olhar para uma pintura dele e não ficar se perguntando “onde” ele pinta! É uma parede, um tecido? Ou é um efeito da técnica dele? O que me encanta não é nem saber a resposta mas ver que o artista dirije meu olhar com um parâmetro determinado: textura!

 

O próximo parâmetro é contraste ou “fricção”… enquanto a textura em geral parece ser áspera como um muro antigo, os motivos de Sénéchal são doces, etéreos. Cada imagem se revela como uma aparição, que chama atenção para si com urgência, podendo desaparecer a qualquer momento. Traços renascentistas desenham rostos que inspiram uma religiosidade reforçada justamente pela cor azul (leia aqui sobre a religiosidade dessa cor) e pelo brilho dourado do marrom suave usado por Sénéchal. Imagens fantásticas que misturam rostos e peixes.introduzindo um símbolo também conhecido como Ichthys que provém da palavra grega para peixe, IXÈYÓ, e é um acrônimo proveniente da primeira letra das palavras que significam “Jesus Cristo Filho de Deus é o Salvador.”

A linguagem de Sénéchal é concisa e sua temática bem definida ao mesmo tempo que a riqueza  quase explosiva de suas imagens parece ser infinita. Um Mestre! É olhar pra aprender.

Good morning and a good week everybody! Monday here in this blog is time to begin the week honoring the galleries of my favorite IGers. “IGers” is the name given for those who use the social network for sharing images that is taking over at the moment: Instagram. But, beyond that, I will take in consideration a remark made by my most assiduous reader… do I need to say who that is? hehehe She asked me if the blog is abandonning its initial thematics on interior design. Since this is one of her favorite subjects, she felt a little like “put aside”. A she knows me very well she is aware that my curiosity drives me fromone matter to other with such a high speed but for me, that doesn’t mean any sudden change but a gradual transformation of aspects that are always mixed.

For example… Even though the subject today is art – presenting this marvelous french artist, Bernard Sénéchal, who lives in the north american city of Birmingham, the biggest in Alabama –  I will excuse me by him to show how some concepts used in decoration (which already appeared many times here in the blog) are also the same to appreciate Art in general (and when we talk about Art as seen in the gallery of IGer @bernardsenechal, we do have to use capitals!).

Often times I talk about using a reduced colour pallete in decoration… so well, @bernardsenechal fascinated me since the very first moment my eyes stopped at his gallery by presenting works in neutral colours (white, black, grey, brown) with only a “special touch” by other colours, generally blue. Now… look at this artist’s exuberance of textures! It’s impossible to look at his painting and don’t ask yourself “where” does he paint on? Is it a wall, a fabric? Or is it simply the effect of his painting technique? What fascinates me is not even getting the answer to that question but to see how an artist drives my look with an specific parameter: texture!

The next parameter is contrast or “friction”… whiletexture seems to be generally rather rough like an old wall, Sénéchal’s motifs are tender, ethereal. Each image reveals itself as an apparition calling my attention with urgence since it may disappear at any time. Renaissancist traces draw faces that inspire religiosity and what reinforces that is exactly the presence of blue (read here about the religiosity of this colour) plus the golden shine of the mellow brown used by Sénéchal. Fantastic images that mix faces and fishes introduce a symbol that is also known as Ichthys coming from the greek word for fish, IXEYÓ, and is an acronym resulting from the first letter of the words that mean “Jesus Christ Son of God is the Saviour.”

The vocabulary Sénéchal uses is concise and his set of themes well defined but at the same time the almost explosive richness of his images seems to be endless. A Master! We must look and learn.
