Há um tempinho atrás li um artigo delicioso no blog Lux-O sobre Iris Apfel, uma adorável personagem da cena cultural internacional que diz, entre outras pérolas, que ser feliz é mais importante do que ter estilo. Essa frase soando justamente na voz de uma das maiores Grandes Rainhas do estilo, tem um peso bastante diferente do que quando pronunciada por lábios mais plebeus.

Certa ela, imagina só! Entre ser feliz ou ter estilo eu nem pisco os olhos antes de optar pela felicidade mas entre ser feliz com ou sem estilo… também não pisco os olhos e fico com a primeira opção. Em algumas culturas “piscar os olhos” significa o mesmo que “língua na bochecha” em outras… gestos sociais para indicar algum tipo de bom humor, de piada, de concordância amigável cujo objetivo nada mais é que estabelecer proximidade. Existem muitos designers que piscam os olhos com sua criatividade, suas cores e formas. E existe Jonathan Adler!

O estilo do ceramista, designer, autor e instagramer (ou IGer) americano @jonathanadler não é só happy… é happy e é chic! Happy na profusão de cores, de formas geométricas, de volumes exagerados pelas mãos de quem não usa o brilho de lantejoulas pra criar… usa logo o brilho do sol. Chic porque todos esses elementos são bem proporcionados, porque respiram com elegância, porque colocam a “língua na bochecha” com suavidade, sem mordê-la (como muitos que querem fazer gracinha a qualquer custo). Mais do que tudo isso, o “chic” de Jonathan Adler é que o “happy” dele é sincero, fruto de um olhar carinhosamente humano que permite que sua própria criação seja o resultado do simples ato de observar e descobrir o ser humano escondido, por exemplo, em uma de suas paixões: objetos artesanais. Adler é capaz de falar com o mesmo interesse sobre uma grande obra de arte como sobre uma peça colhida ao acaso na feira de artesanato do bairro. Porque o que interessa, obviamente, não é o objeto em si… é a voz de Grande Rainha que qualquer um desses objetos sempre carregam por mais plebeus que sejam seus lábios. Cabe aos mestres, como Jonathan Adler, a missão de nos revelar essas vozes! Posso piscar agora? 😉

Some time ago I read a delightful article in the blog Lux-O talking about Iris Apfel, this adorable character in the international culture scene who says, among other perls, that being happy is more important than having stile. This phrase, reverberating from the voice of one of the biggest Big Queens of style has quite a diferent meaning than when pronounced by more commoner lips.

No doubt she is right! Between being happy or having style I don’t even blink my eye before choosing happyness but between being happy with or without style… again I don’t blink my eye and choose the first option. For some cultures “blink an eye” means the same as “tongue in cheeck” for others… social gestures to indicate some kind of humor, of joke, of a friendly agreement which only aim is nothing more than achieving proximity. There are many designers who blink an eye with their creativity, their colours and shapes. And there is Jonathan Adler!

The style of american potter, designer, author and instagramer (IGer) @jonathanadler is not only happy… is happy and is chic! Happy in its profusion of colours, geometric shapes, exagerated volumes by hands of someone who doesn’t use the shine of pailette to create… he uses the shine of the sun itself. Chic because all those elements are well proportionate, because they breath with elegance, because they do put the tongue in cheeck but softly, without biting it (as many others who try to make jokes at any cost). More than all this, the “chic” by Jonathan Adler exists because his “happy” is sincere, resulting of a tenderly human look that allows his own creation to be the fruit of the humble act of observing and discovering the human being hidden for example in one of his passions: handmade objects. He is able to speak with the same interest about a great artwork or about a piece found by accident at the handicrafts’ fair in the neighbourhood. Because what counts, obviously, is not the object itself but the voice of a big Queen that any of these objects always carry no matter how commoner their lips are. It is up to masters, like Jonathan Adler, the mission of revealing those voices to us. May I blink my eye now? 😉
