Nesse domingo fizemos a última apresentação da série de 8 visitas guiadas por artistas pela Galeria de Pinturas da Academia de Belas Artes de Viena. Foi um experimento realizado com muito sucesso como desdobramento do projeto Dancing Museums, cuja parte austríaca foi conduzida pela coreógrafa Liz King. Repito o “com muito sucesso”, só para justificar a intenção da direção da Galeria em continuar a série a partir de outubro desse ano. 🙂

Dancing Museums traz a dança contemporânea para museus utilizando seu principal elemento, o corpo humano, como instrumento de pesquisa e de comunicação. O corpo do artista é visto como ponto de intersecção  entre o visitante de hoje e as personagens dos quadros, traduzindo idéias e sentimentos contidos nas imagens.

O ponto de partida era sempre uma introdução feita por um dos curadores da Galeria ao quadro “O Juízo Final” de Bosch, que atualmente completa 500 anos. A partir dali, o grupo de artistas iniciava uma caminhada, dançando por todas as salas da Galeria e parando em frente a alguns quadros escolhidos individualmente pelos artistas, que extendiam sua tradução à linguagem falada e, no meu caso, cantada.

O ponto culminante da apresentação era sempre a última sala, onde os visitantes eram gentilmente convidados a interagir, descobrindo com seus próprios corpos a possibilidade de estabelecer uma relação diferente com os quadros da Galeria, modificando sua perspectiva sobre os quadros e sobre o papel da Arte na sociedade atual. Esse experimento, simples e profundo ao mesmo tempo, terminava com a conversa informal entre artistas e visitantes que, ao receber a chance do protagonismo, não queriam deixar a sala antes de relatar verbalmente o encanto e a concretude da transformação experimentada.

This sunday we did the last performance in the series of 8 tours guided by artists at the Paintings Gallery of the Fine Arts Academy of Vienna. It was an experiment done with success as an unfolding of the project Dancing Museums. The austrian part of it was conducted by choreographer Liz King. I repeat the “with success” just to justify the intention of the Gallery’s direction to go on with the project next autumn. 🙂

Dancing Museums brings contemporary dance to museums using its main element, the human body, as instrument of research and communication. The body of the artist is seen as intersection point between the visitor and the characters of the paintings, translating ideas and feelings contained in those images.

The starting point of the tours was always an introduction by one of the Gallery’s curators to the picture “The Final Judgement” by Bosch, currently celebrating 500 years jubilee. From that on, the group of artists began a walk, dancing in all rooms of the Gallery and stopping in front of some pictures that were individually chosen by the artists, who extended their translation into verbal language, spoken and, in my case, sung.

A highlight of this performance was always the last room, where the visitors were gently invited to interact, discovering with their own bodies the possibility to stablish a diferent relationship with the paintings in the Gallery, changing their perspectives about the pictures and about the role of Art in current society. This experiment, so simple and deep at the same time, finished with informal talks between artists and visitors who, after receiving the chance of protagonism, didn’t want to leave the room before telling us about the fascination and concreteness of the transformation they went through.
