A conhecida firma vienense Wiener Werstätte foi fundada em 1903 pelos designers Josef Hoffmann e Koloman Moser aliados ao industrial Fritz Waerndorfer. Alinhados aos ideais estéticos do mesmo movimento que fundou a Secession, eles produziram objetos para casa, jóias e móveis até o início dos anos 30. Com a crise mundial, a firma que mantinha lojas em Berlin, Zurique e Nova Yorque teve que fechar suas portas, encerrando um capítulo de ouro do design internacional.

Hoffmann e Moser acreditavam que o ser humano deveria ser cercado de beleza e por isso reinventavam tudo à sua volta, criando peças que marcaram época e são cobiçadas até hoje. Sem diferenciar objetos de uso cotidiano e arte, enchiam a vida e as casas de obras primas. O Palácio Stoclet em Bruxels foi totalmente criado pela Wiener Werkstätte.

A maior coleção em museu da Wiener Werkstätte encontra-se no  MAK, o Museu de Artes Aplicadas de Viena e outros exemplos também podem ser vistos no Leopold Museum, mas ainda é possível garimpar prataria,serviços de chá e até mesmo móveis nos antiquários da cidade. The well known viennese brand Wiener Werkstätte was founded in 1903 by designers Josef Hoffmann and Koloman Moser in partnership with industrial Fritz Waerndorfer. Ligned up to the aesthetical ideals of the same mouvement that founded the Secession, they produced objects for home, jewelry and furniture until the beginning of the 30’s. With the world crisis, the brand that kept stores in Berlin, Zurich and New York had to close its doors, putting end to a golden chapter in international design.

Hoffmann and Moser believed that human being should be surrounded by beauty therefore they reinvented everything around them, creating pieces that marked an era and are coveted until today. Without differentiating everyday objects from art, they filled life and homes with masterpieces. The Stoclet Palace in Brussels was totally created by Wiener Werkstätte.

The biggest Wiener Werkstätte collection in a museum can be found at MAK, Museum for Applied Arts in Vienna and other examples can also be seen at Leopold Museum but it is still possible to purchase silverware,  tea services and even furniture in the city’s antiques.
